  • Summer, 1961, brief travel in the Virgin Islands, Brazil, Argentina.
  • Summer, 1971, participant in the Davidson College Faculty Seminar on South Asia; six weeks of study and travel in India and Nepal; brief travel in Turkey, Lebanon, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Japan.
  • Summer, 1973, participant in the South Atlantic States Association for South Asian Studies Faculty Seminar on Rural Development in Pakistan; seven weeks of study in travel in Pakistan.
  • Academic Year, 1976-77, Visiting Associate Professor, Troy State University, European Division, M.S. in Management Program; three months each in Turkey, Germany, Italy, and Great Britain; additional travel in Greece, Austria, Switzerland, France, and Belgium.
  • Summer, 1978, participant in the South Atlantic States Association for South Asian and African Studies Faculty Seminar in West Africa; six weeks of study and travel in Senegal, Mali, Upper Volta, and Ivory Coast.

  • Winter, 2004, co-director, Furman Eastern Mediterranean Study Abroad Program; taught a course on Economies in Transition focusing upon Turkey, Greece, and Italy.
  • Summer, 2006, toured eight Transition Economies of Central and Eastern Europe: Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and (former East) Germany.
  • Fall, 2010, toured archaeological sites in Egypt and Israel.
